This focused issue on “Oral Pre-cancer and Cancer” is edited by Dr. Shankargouda Patil, from Department of Maxillofacial Surgery and Diagnostic Sciences, Division of Oral Pathology, College of Dentistry, Jazan University, Jazan, Saudi Arabia; Dr. Sachin C. Sarode, from Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College and Hospital, Maharashtra, India; and Dr. Kamran Awan, from College of Dental Medicine, Roseman University of Health Sciences, Utah, USA.

Dr. Shankargouda Patil is an enthusiastic young academician with vast expertise in the arena of research and scientific publications pertaining to the specialty of oral oncology. He has explored numerous histopathological and immuno-histochemical markers related to oral cancer, lichenoid dysplasia, verrucous hyperplasia, and Candida albicans, which were published in various impact factor journals, and have accredited numerous citations. Following his success in research with basic immuno-histopathological studies, he moved ahead and focused his attention on molecular biomarkers.

Dr. Sachin C. Sarode is currently working as an Associate professor in Patil Dental College Pune. He holds his MDS in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology from Government Dental College & Hospital, Aurangabad, M.S, India. He is pursuing Ph.D. in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College, Pimpri, Pune. He presented many Scientific Presentations at National and International Conferences.

Dr. Kamran Awan is an Associate Professor in the College of Dental Medicine, Roseman University of Health Sciences, Utah. Dr. Awan is active in basic and clinical research and his research interests include screening of oral cancer and precancer, developing clinical and laboratory tests to identify at risk subjects to assist in early detection of oral cancer, developing tumor and genetic markers for diagnosis and examining risks of oral cancer in different populations and the delivery of interventional programs directed at cessation of tobacco and areca nut usage. At the moment, he is working on a national level research project to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of American general dentists towards HPV associated oral cancer.
