This focused issue on “Prostate Cancer” is edited by Dr. Marisa Shiina, from Department of Urology, San Francisco VA Medical Center and University of California, San Francisco, CA, USA.

Dr. Marisa Shiina received her doctorate in molecular biology from University of Gunma, School of Engineering. After graduation, she joined tumor immunology branch at National Cancer Institute, NIH, as a postdoctoral fellow. She moved to Hellen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California, San Francisco, where she studied combination drug therapies and oncolytic adenoviruses for the treatment of cancer. In 2015, she joined the Urology Department at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Shiina’s research interests focus on understanding the epigenetics changes in prostate cancer racial disparity and identify biomarkers responsible for race related aggressive cancer. Also, she investigates the mechanisms of resistance to androgen receptor inhibitors in prostate cancer.
