Shankargouda Patil, MDS, MFDS RCPS (Glasgow), FICD, FPFA

Associate Professor, Department of Maxillofacial Surgery and Diagnostic Sciences, Division of Oral Pathology, College of Dentistry, Jazan University, Jazan, Saudi Arabia

Dr. Patil is an enthusiastic young academician with vast expertise in the arena of research and scientific publications pertaining to the specialty of oral oncology. He has explored numerous histopathological and immuno-histochemical markers related to oral cancer, lichenoid dysplasia, verrucous hyperplasia, and Candida albicans, which were published in various impact factor journals, and have accredited numerous citations. Following his success in research with basic immuno-histopathological studies, he moved ahead and focused his attention on molecular biomarkers. Consequently, in pursuit of advanced training encompassing innovative quality research, he focused his research on genomic and proteomic alterations in the oral cells related with consumption of tobacco products.

In his research career till date (Sept., 2018), he has published over 200 scientific publications in various peer-reviewed and impact factor journals, procuring him numerous citations. His work in research has earned him the position of editorial board member and reviewers/referees of reputed journals such as Lancet Oncology, Medical Hypotheses, etc. and managing editor of noted Impact Factor journal - Frontiers in Biosciences. He has been honoured with prestigious memberships/fellowships by the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow), the Pierre Fauchard Academy (Netherlands), the International College of Dentists (USA)and the Academy of General Education (Manipal, India).

His philosophies and distant vision encircle the understanding of molecular and genomic pathways, which holds the key to the development of preventive and precision medicine for oral cancer in the future. Therefore, to actualize this goal, he is pursuing extensive collaborative research work to expand the arena of oral oncology/ pathology.
