Dr. Meng is Professor and Section Chief of Clinical Chemistry Laboratories, Department of Laboratory Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He received his MD in China in 1985 and PhD in Clinical Chemistry from the University of Helsinki, Finland in 1999. Following postdoctoral training in Clinical Chemistry at McMaster University, he has worked at the University of Saskatchewan and the Hospital for Sick Children, the University of Toronto prior to moving to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston in 2012.Dr. Meng has been an active AACC member since 2001 and has served the professional associations and organizations in numerous capacities. He served as the Chair of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry, the President of North American Chinese Clinical Chemist Association (NACCCA), and the AACC House of Delegates. Currently he is serving on the Committee on Analytical Quality, IFCC, Diagnostic Immunology Resource Committee (DIRC) of CAP, 2016 AACC annual organizing committee, AACC Asia Pacific Working Group, and AACC Education Core Committee. He is the Chair-elect of AACC Nutrition Division and Chair-elect of AACC Tumor Markers and Cancer Diagnostics. Dr. Meng has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and serves on 6 journals’ editorial board. He has received a number of awards, including the AACC Critical and POCT and the Van Slyke Foundation Research Grant Award, the Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists Award for Research Excellence, AACC outstanding speaker award, and the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry Award for Outstanding Service to the Profession of Clinical Biochemistry. His research includes tumor biology, tumor biomarkers, and cancer diagnostics with special interest in circulating tumor cells (CTC), miRNA, and other molecular markers.
