Stephanie Ma, PhD

Dr. Ma obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Cell/Molecular Biology and Genetics and Master’s degree in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She then obtained her Ph.D. degree from the University of Hong Kong. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences as well as a Principal Investigator of the State Key Laboratory for Liver Research at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong. Her research interest is on understanding the general mechanism of tumorigenesis and developing strategies to prevent cancer through gaining new knowledge of the biological and molecular characteristics of cancer stem cells. Gastrointestinal cancers including hepatocellular carcinoma and oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma are currently used as model systems in her studies.
