Tom K. Hei, PhD

Dr. Tom K. Hei is Professor and Vice-Chairman of Radiation Oncology and Associate Director of the Center for Radiological Research in the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University. In addition, he is also a professor of Environmental Health Sciences in the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and he has a number of academic appointments both in China and in Japan. Dr. Hei got his Ph.D. degree (Experimental Pathology) from Case Western Reserve University in 1983. He has received a number of awards both for his research endeavor and for his mentoring role to residents and young investigators. He is currently the president of the Radiation Research Society (US). His research interests include radiation and environmental carcinogenesis/mutagenesis, mechanism of fiber & metal toxicology, mechanisms of radiation-induced bronchial and breast carcinogenesis, and oxidative stress and mitochondrial damages.
