Dr Guy D. Eslick is currently the Professor of Cancer Epidemiology and Medical Statistics at The University of Sydney and the Director of Research for the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD), and Co-Director of the Whiteley-Martin Research Centre at The University of Sydney. He completed his PhD in 2004 at The University of Sydney studying the epidemiology of non-cardiac chest pain. In 2007 he was awarded an American Cancer Society International Fellowship for Beginning Investigators and conducted international post-doctoral training at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, USA. He returned to Australia in 2009 and was appointed as Associate Professor of Surgery and Cancer Epidemiology at The University of Sydney. In 2016 he was promoted to Professor of Cancer Epidemiology and Medical Statistics.
He is an experienced cancer epidemiologist with expertise in upper gastrointestinal cancers, especially oesophageal cancer. His research focus is on evidence-based medicine and surgery, determining risk factors, and understanding the aetiology of cancer so that cancer prevention programs can be developed to reduce the morbidity and mortality of gastrointestinal cancers.
